To provide high-quality technical and operational support to the Physical Education (PE) department, ensuring effective lesson delivery, safe use of equipment, and support for extra-curricular and competitive sporting activities. The role is essential to maintaining excellent standards across curriculum and extracurricular sport provision.
Key ResponsibilitiesLesson Preparation
Set up and take down sports equipment for lessons, including trampolines, fitness stations, and goalposts (football, volleyball, hockey, etc.).
Ensure both indoor and outdoor teaching areas are prepared and safe before lessons and cleared afterwards.
Support with pre- and post-day equipment checks.
Assist with preparation and maintenance of PE teaching materials and resources.
Manage ICT needs, including recording and editing GCSE coursework videos.
Administration & Resources
Maintain accurate stock records and perform annual audits.
Manage ordering, receiving, and accounting of PE equipment and kit.
Liaise with the Finance department regarding invoices and budgets.
Co-ordinate with the site and facilities teams to ensure timely maintenance and marking of pitches.
Arrange repair and safe storage of equipment, ensuring adherence to Health & Safety guidelines.
Clean and launder PE kits and sportswear regularly.
Provide general administrative support, including updating notice boards.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Prepare termly and seasonal fixture lists.
Liaise with other schools to confirm sports fixtures and logistics.
Assist in marketing student sporting success via the school website, local press, and internal displays.
Organise transport and manage kit requirements for away matches and events.
Support with delivery and supervision of lunchtime and after-school sports clubs.
General Duties
Provide hands-on support and guidance to students during practical lessons and activities.
Safeguard and promote student welfare in line with school safeguarding policies.
Coordinate booking and use of off-site facilities as needed.
Drive the school minibus for sporting fixtures and other off-site activities.
Conduct Health & Safety checks on PE rooms, storage areas, equipment, and furniture.
Record and report any H&S concerns promptly.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and contribute to departmental planning and improvement.
Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Principal or Head of PE.
Person Specification
Essential:
Strong organisational and practical skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good communication and time management
Interest in sports and fitness
Willingness to undertake training including safeguarding and first aid
Flexible working hours to accommodate fixtures and events
Full driving licence (ability to drive minibus preferred)
Desirable:
Experience working in a school or sports environment
Knowledge of sports equipment maintenance
Competency with ICT tools (e.g., video editing, Microsoft Office)
