Role Objectives



The Peer Mentor role is a role providing mentoring support to participants on the Out of Work Service.

Peer Mentor Responsibilities



The post holder will play a key part in supporting participants with mental health and substance misuse challenges, understanding how their mental health condition is affecting them in their pursuit to return to the workforce and provide them with a flexible and personalised support programme, utilising a mixture of face to face and technology-based interventions.

The post holder will provide a skilled assessment and deliver evidence-based health focused interventions to participants on the programme, utilising their specialist skills, knowledge and experience to provide participants with advice, guidance and support tailored to the participants' individual needs.

The post holder will take a mentoring approach to Mental Health and Substance Misuse challenges with an understanding based around lived experience, prior knowledge of such challenges and familiarity with the barriers facing people in their desire to return to work.

The post holder will work closely with associated stakeholders to help plan the participants short and long term action plans to return to work including training providers, volunteer organisations and statutory agencies.

Your support, and your participants journey towards recovery, begins with an initial assessment and the creation of a Support Plan detailing action, advice and guidance to ensure participants are progressing towards managing their mental and physical health and wellbeing.

The Peer Mentor [SC1] will demonstrate skills in dealing with mental health concerns, producing plans which support within health, wellbeing and employment, including quality of life outcomes and ensuring these outcomes are measurable and achievable.

The Out of Work Service and your support is provided to clients for an unlimited period with a overall objective to meet and over coming barriers facing them in their pursuit of work including training, experience, job searching and job readiness

Mentoring Sessions are delivered remotely, by telephone or video call, there is some scope for face to face working within geographical restrictions and government guidelines (dependent on participant requirements and your assessment of therapeutic need).

Administration Responsibilities



The post holder will also have administrative responsibilities as a fundamental part of the role. These include:

Gathering and evidencing outcomes

Caseload management

Maintain accurate records and giving accurate feedback to others in the team

Correlating KPI information

Feedback of KPI targets to Leadership Team

Other admin responsibilities are expected depending on business and deadline needs.

You must demonstrate excellent experience of undertaking mental health assessment and support planning.

You will have excellent computer skills and have very good report writing skills to complete accurate plans, case notes, and reports within targeted deadlines.

Extremely high-level organisational skills will be demanded, in order to manage day to day appointments, and to manage your total caseload to targeted deadlines.

As a professional, you will have the ability to build a rapport with your participants, always ensuring confidentiality and professionalism, as well as working alongside your team and colleagues.

Main Duties



To create, maintain and evaluate referral pathways into the Out of Work Service establishing relationships with the outcome of signing up new participants

To complete initial assessments and create action plans detailing the barriers faced, actions to be taken and future desires.

Showing your high-level knowledge of mental health and substance misuse challenges.

Complete telephone-based/face-to-face assessments for participants and formulate detailed, actions plans with promote mental and physical health wellbeing and any work-related considerations in a timely fashion and to KPI targets.

Work with participants to research necessary.

Have excellent IT skills and writing skills including spelling and grammar.

Demonstrate extremely high-level organisational skills by the effective management of a participant caseload and always meet business KPIs.

You will bring professional skills, boundary recognition and practical knowledge from your existing qualifications and experience but above all be mindful that the role of PM is unique and defines your practice within the parameters set out in this job description.

Essential Criteria



Previous experience of working in a targeted environment or working to tight deadlines.

Previous lived experience of the challenges connected to mental health and/or substance misuse either personally or through close support of someone with mental health and/or substance misuse.

Previous experience working with people with Mental Health and wellbeing concerns.

Work well as part of a team and build positive working relationships.

Have highly developed verbal and written communication skills and be able to use these effectively and respond to changing environment. E

Evidence of ongoing professional development IT literate, competent MS Office, Word, Teams, and Excel skills

Fluent English language skills, able to communicate with participants via teams, telephone, email and face to face in a clear, caring, courteous and professional manner.

- Access to a car for commuting is preferred but not essential

Organisation skills:



demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload in a manner ensuring participant support is prioritised alongside the need to meet business and performance targets.

Ability to manage change positively, effectively and efficiently to achieve best outcomes.

Positive attitude, personal drive to achieve and exceed targets.

Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative.

Independence, autonomy and good clinical judgement with responsibility for one's own decisions, actions and practice.

Flexible and adaptable attitude: willing to undertake other ad hoc duties as required e.g. supporting other team members

Ability to sit with uncertainty and be mindful of one's own biases.

Ensuring professional boundaries with participants are always practiced and maintained.

Recognise the importance of supervision and utilise this effectively.

Ability to perform with insight, empathy, and intelligence in areas of mental health and wellbeing.

Empowering others: Conveying confidence in participants ability to be successful, especially at challenging new tasks; allowing individuals freedom and support to decide how they will accomplish their goals and resolve issues.

Desirable criteria



Previous experience working with people with Mental Health and wellbeing concerns.

UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle, as some travel may occasionally be required.
