The Peer Support Leader would be based at the Elmwood campus but supported by CELT (The Centre for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching). CELT is a department that supports, enables, inspires and celebrates the continual enhancement of learning and teaching at SRUC.
Peer support is where students support other students (i.e., their 'peers') by running study groups, signposting and sharing resources. The study groups are relaxed and informal spaces where students can meet each other, get support with their studies and make friends. The Peer Support Leader would run one of these groups at their campus, supported by SRUC staff.
The Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for a student to run one of our peer support groups. You would be supporting other students and building a sense of belonging and community at SRUC whilst being paid for your time and enhancing your employability. The role is flexible and can fit around your studies. It's a great opportunity for you to get involved, develop a range of valuable transferrable skills, and gain experience which will help your CV stand out. Peer Support Leaders will gain skills and confidence in leadership, communication, project management, organisation and working as part of a team: skills that will benefit your future career or study.
You would be responsible for planning and running a study group at your campus (potentially also with some activities online). Alongside this, you will be responsible for:
Meeting regularly with staff from CELT to update on the groups' activities, successes and challenges.
Evaluating your group to identify where improvements could be made, and what is working well.
Working with other Peer Support Leaders to enhance and grow peer support across SRUC. This includes attending networking sessions and creating promotional materials.
Promoting peer support to staff and students.
Encouraging volunteers to get involved with running the group where possible.
Working to ensure that peer support groups are sustainable and continue year on year. This includes facilitating a smooth handover.
Contributing to wider SRUC projects where appropriate.
