Purpose

This role will be responsible for all aspects of portable emissions and fuel consumption testing from vehicle preparation, equipment installation, testing, formulating and validating test results. Maintaining and calibrating all PEMS related test equipment and working to high quality systems and health and safety procedures.

The role is based on a 40hr week on a day shift and the possibility of overtime. There may be occasion when testing requires working both early and late shifts. All testing will be performed around our unique test track facilities or public roads. On occassion testing may also take place within our 4WD light duty emissions facility for light duty and small commercial vehicles or our Variable Temperature Emissions Chamber (VTEC2) for heavy duty vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing vehicles prior to testing and planning for unforeseen issues
  • Performing a variety of tests on Millbrook tracks, on public roads and on chassis dynamometers driving to various cycles
  • Collate test results from analytical and logging equipment
  • Validate test results from analytical and logging equipment
  • Maintain and calibrate all test equipment
  • Develop improved systems of work, installation of equipment and testing methods
  • Work to UTAC high quality standards and health and safety procedures
  • Liaise with Emissions Engineering and work closely with customers
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC colleagues at all times
Qualifications

Qualifications
  • GSCE grades or equivalent
  • Mechanical/PC qualification
  • Engineering apprenticeship related to motor vehicles (preferred)
Core competencies:
  • Good understanding of basic motor vehicle fundamentals
  • Automotive diagnostic or testing experience
  • Dilute emissions systems (CVS)/ Particulate measurement experience (desirable)
  • Instrumentation experience (desirable)
  • Experience with fault finding techniques (desirable)
  • Electrical/electronic experience (desirable)

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Methodical and logical approach to all aspects of work
  • Fabrication skills (desirable)

Other:
  • Due to environmental test conditions candidate must pass full annual medical
  • Flexibility to travel as and when required
  • Full UK driving licence & own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily assessable via public transport)
  • HGV and/or PSV licensed
  • SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years)
  • Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check
  • NOTE: This position be will based on site
