About the function\xe2\x80\xa6

The Network Operations Team support the regions, routes and other functions in understanding 3 key questions:

\xc2\xb7 How do we protect the railway from outside events?

\xc2\xb7 How can we deliver the railway safely?

\xc2\xb7 And how do we know that its performing at its best?

The Network Performance Team are responsible for the 3rd question and we strive to develop a greater understanding of all aspects of train performance, from in-year reporting all the way through to shaping the 30-year industry strategy. We\'re developing new metrics and new ways of understanding performance.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone to support the production of high-quality train performance reporting and analysis for the industry and when required provide a first level commentary on trends and occurrences to management.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, numerate person who is looking for their first step in a career in data analysis and reporting.

They need to be reliable, accurate and confident in communicating with people of all levels.

We are looking for someone who can make the role their own and innovate where necessary to ensure the reports they produce are insightful and efficiently produced.

About the role (External)

What does the average day look like?

As a Performance Knowledge Advisor you will:

\xc2\xb7 Produce error free reports and supporting data as directed to agreed timescales.

\xc2\xb7 Support the innovation and development of insightful performance reporting and lead continuous improvement in the production process.

\xc2\xb7 Work in a team with performance analysts to explore causes of poor performance

\xc2\xb7 Respond to FOI requests and small scale analytical queries that are sent to the team inbox

\xc2\xb7 Support the development of Power BI tools for the SharePoint site

\xc2\xb7 Understand the reports in order to be able to spot errors and inform management of trends and unusual occurrences.

\xc2\xb7 Liaise with management both in Network Rail and across the industry to provide the required commentary to some reports.

\xc2\xb7 Assess the quality of performance information and data as directed, and check whether it complies with the specified requirements. Log and recommend appropriate remedial actions if any discrepancies are identified.

\xc2\xb7 Support the other areas of the Network Performance Team as required.

What essential skills and experiences are required?

\xc2\xb7 Understanding of Microsoft office applications

\xc2\xb7 Able to work to strict timescales

\xc2\xb7 Able to work under pressure with challenging objectives

\xc2\xb7 Ability to self-check work and consistently deliver a high quality product

\xc2\xb7 Strong communication skills within a team

We would also like, but not essential.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Business Objects or similar data analysis tools.

\xc2\xb7 Strong skills in Microsoft EXCEL

\xc2\xb7 Experience in Power BI

\xc2\xb7 Structured and analytical thinker

\xc2\xb7 Enthusiasm to develop and improve performance reporting within the industry.

\xc2\xb7 Understanding of the rail industry and performance data

Ability to meaningfully inform to all levels within an organisation

This role is a full-time opportunity, but flexible working patterns will be considered.

Location: This role is based at Quadrant:MK. For roles based in the , you must live within 75/90 minutes.
