Job Description

An exciting internal opportunity is presented in the role of Perinatal Metal Health Specialist Midwife .



Working collaboratively with the Perinatal Mental Health Team the perinatal mental Health Specialist Midwife will be focused on ensuring the delivery of high quality midwifery care that is patient centred, clinically driven and flexible, providing support to women affected by mental health problems in the perinatal period. The post holder will caseload an identified group of women in the antenatal and the post-natal period as well as advising on intrapartum care relating to perinatal mental health.



Key responsibilities in the role include to work as a midwife within the Perinatal Mental Health service, accepting direct referrals from a range of sources.



To provide assessment of mental health needs, developing care plans in collaboration with members of the Perinatal Mental Health

team.



To provide short term support and onward referral to appropriate services as required.



To promote and steer evidence based best practice for women with perinatal mental health issues in the perinatal period.

To act as a resource and advocate for all clients and staff within the

Directorate in relation to Mental Health matters.



To ensure that all Trust Staff are proactive in promoting positive mental health and understand the links to nutrition, physical activity and harm reducing behaviour as part of the wider Public Health agenda. To be fully conversant with the Mental Health pathways and Parenting pathways. Through management of referrals, develop skills and knowledge necessary to ensure pregnant women with mental health problems are managed in the most appropriate fashion. To explore opportunities to work with agencies to cascade the knowledge of the importance of positive maternal/parental and infant relationships. To participate in the formulation of and maintenance of positive working relationships within the multidisciplinary team. To obtain objectives on an annual basis based on the performance indicators for the service. To take responsibility for organising and prioritising own workload. To provide on-going feedback to the multidisciplinary team To contribute to Training and give advice and liaise with the Practice and Development Lead for Maternity to include guidance on the TNA required within the service.
