There are various roles available, with some families requiring support for school holidays only, to others who require a few hours every week.

There are vacancies across the whole of Cumberland, including Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven.

What is a Personal Assistant?

A personal assistant (PA) is someone employed by an individual with care needs to support them in their day-to-day activities, helping them to live their life the way they wish.

A Personal Assistant can be involved in many areas of a person's life; at home, at work or leisure. It's a varied and flexible role where you focus on the needs of the person and build a good working relationship with them.

What does the role entail?

The amount and type of support will vary depending on individual circumstances.

Families are often seeking respite for a few hours per week and require support for their child so they can complete their every day tasks.

Here are some examples of the type of support needed:

Taking them to activities such as soft play/trampolining Going on trips out and supporting with their social activities Encouraging their social development/skills Personal care, such as toileting and dressing (not all PA roles involve personal care) Managing behaviours that challenge Supporting family carers when they need respite or a break

What do I need to become a Personal Assistant?

When employing a personal assistant, individual employers often look for someone who is a good personal fit. It's not always about previous experience and qualifications - what's really important is that you have the right values and skills to do the job.

All roles supporting a child are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check which will be funded by the employer. Applicants on the Update Service are an advantage.

People First/UDirect Support Cumberland, do not employ PA's directly. We support individual employers through the recruitment process and ensure they meet their legal responsibilities. People First may provide your pay slip but it is important to remember that your employer is the person you support (or a close family member e.g. a parent of a child) and not People First or the funder of the package.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Zero hours contract

Pay: 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 1 - 20 per week
