maternity cover contract
, supporting a young gentleman with profound learning difficulties to live a life full of joy, growth, and independence.
We're a family-led team working hands-on to develop our son's daily living skills, confidence, and social engagement. Despite significant challenges--including epilepsy, autistic traits, and mild deafness--he continues to surprise us with his resilience, humour, and capacity to learn. He's non-verbal but expressive, cheeky, and full of personality. With the right support, he thrives.
About the Role
You'll be part of a trained team providing 2:1 support, helping him engage in fun, meaningful activities at home and in the community. This includes:
Supporting daily living skills using positive behavioural strategies
Applying physiotherapy and oral motor therapy targets
Encouraging independence through patience, creativity, and gentle persistence
Reading subtle cues and using communication aids to understand his needs
Assisting with mobility, including occasional wheelchair use
Participating in activities like Ski-ability and hopefully Surfability (yes, that means getting in the sea!)
This is a part-time role working
Monday, Thursday, and Friday
, 8:30?am to 4:30?pm. Statutory holidays (5.6 weeks pro-rata) are included, with guaranteed time off at Christmas. Occasional extra days may be required for team training sessions, scheduled well in advance.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone who is:
Patient, observant, and emotionally intelligent
Creative, dynamic, and able to think on their feet
Willing to learn and adapt as our son's needs evolve
In good general health and physical condition, with the stamina to support an active daily routine
Comfortable with physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and pushing a wheelchair
A confident driver with a full UK or EU driving licence and access to a reliable car
Educated to A-level standard or with relevant experience
Fluent in English (spoken and written) with basic maths skills
Empathetic and enthusiastic about working with individuals with special needs
Experience in behavioural support is welcome but not essential--full training is provided, including sessions with our Behavioural Consultant (BCBA Risca Solomon of Skybound Autism Therapies).

A 6-month probation period applies, with a pay review upon successful completion. Salary is paid every 4 weeks and reviewed annually based on performance and progression.
Additional Info
Full DBS check required before starting
COVID safety protocols in place (handwashing, sanitising)
Must hold a full UK or EU driving licence and be comfortable driving an automatic car (training provided if needed)
Must have access to a reliable car, as we are not close to a bus route
