Female Carer for Young Adult with Severe Learning Disability
Position Overview
We are seeking a female carer to provide dedicated, person centred support for a young adult with a severe learning disability. The ideal candidate will be patient, reliable, and committed to promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life.
This role involves a combination of personal care, daily living support, and meaningful engagement in activities at home and in the community.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care
Assist with washing, dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene
Support with continence care and changing pads
Administer medication following training and guidelines
Daily Living Support
Feeding via Gastrostomy tube following training and guidelines set by the dietitian
Support with mobility, transfers, and safe movement around the home
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised environment
Assist with household tasks related to the young adult's care
Social & Emotional Support
Provide companionship and emotional reassurance
Engage in sensory activities, games, and structured routines
Support participation in hobbies, community outings, and appointments
Encourage communication using preferred methods (verbal, visual aids, gestures, etc.)
Health & Safety
Follow care plans and risk assessments
Monitor wellbeing and report any concerns promptly
Use safe moving and handling techniques
Maintain confidentiality and respect at all times
Essential Requirements
Female carer (for personal care reasons)
Experience supporting individuals with severe learning disabilities or complex needs
Kind, calm, and patient approach
Good communication skills
Ability to follow routines and care plans
Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
Right to work in the UK
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
Training in safeguarding, medication administration, or first aid
Experience with non verbal communication or sensory needs
Full UK driving licence
Working Hours
Flexible hours available (e.g., evenings, weekends)
Full time or part time depending on candidate availability
Occasional additional hours for outings or appointments
Salary
Competitive rate based on experience
