Job Description


We are looking for a personal finance reporter to join us at Express Online. We are keen to speak with experienced reporters who thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment, enjoy the thrill of breaking news and securing brilliant exclusives.

As our personal finance reporter, you will be responsible for pitching, researching and publishing engaging and informative content is engaging, to reach as wide an audience as possible. From tax rules to the latest savings news, in this role you will produce content which meets the needs of our readers, writing on topics which affect their day to day lives.

We are looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around London.

Key responsibilities

What will the role involve?

You will produce high quality content for the personal finance department, delivering a fast turnaround on major financial news stories and bringing in unique ideas and exclusive stories. You will understand and apply knowledge of SEO to maximise article success and work with the Editor to explore new content opportunities which will maximise the success of the department.

You will interview key industry figures and members of the public to produce market leading exclusives on a weekly basis, and collaborate with the Social team to ensure all content produced is effectively shared on all relevant social channels to maximise page views and shares.

The ideal candidate

Who are we looking for?

An experienced journalist with media law knowledge, you have a strong track record of delivering a wide range of engaging finance stories at a national or major regional title with a demonstrable passion for personal finance and the key issues impacting ordinary people day to day.

You have first rate editing, writing and subbing skills, relish the test of working under pressure and to tight deadlines. You\'re social media savvy with current SEO knowledge and ideally you\'re familiar with newsroom analytics and content management systems. You\'re flexible, inquisitive and are on the pulse of what makes a great story!
