Job Description

The Nautilus Welfare Fund is a UK-registered charity administered by Nautilus International, offering a range of specialist services to support retired seafarers and their dependants. Mariners' Park is based in, Wallasey on the Wirral Peninsular overlooking the River Mersey comprising a Care Home, Independent Living and Additional Support all on one site.

Job Purpose:



Carry out a range of duties to deliver high quality accommodation based support services to residents at the Mariners Park estate which promote their independence, health and wellbeing and encourage social and community activities for residents.

To be able to make referrals and advocate on behalf of the residents. Encourage and support residents to have access to services available within Mariners' Park and the wider community. Please note that the successful applicant may also be required to work days when requested.

Key Accountabilities:



1. Deliver personalised care as described in the care plan, which may be in the form of bathing, washing, dressing, moving and handling, skin care, shaving, medication prompts/assistance, meals and end of life care

2. Provide personal care and domestic support (laundry, shopping, cleaning) for residents and record each visit and the support provided

3. Provide domestic service to the communal areas in Trinity House

4. Night staff: To ensure the provision of the night care assistance to residents who are in need. (Waking nights)

5. Take part regular service audits - including - Cleaning, Medication & live supervision

6. Identify and refer risks or hazards to the senior team

7. Order and administer medication to residents following the Nautilus Procedure. Monitor the health and wellbeing of residents and report any changes

8. During working hours, be responsible to take emergency calls, ensuring appropriate action is taken

9. Support residents to make comments or complaints about our service or external services

10. Ensure weekly fire alarm test and regular drill is carried out as per procedures

Typical Skills/Experience:



Holistic and person centred approach to supporting older people

An empathetic approach to the needs of older people

Willingness to work as part of a team and work on own initiative

Understanding of diversity, beliefs and values

Excellent written and oral communication

Ability to carry out personal care and domestic services including but not limited to shopping and some moving and handling of residents

Min 1 years experience working in a care environment

An understanding of Care Quality Commission CQC and service delivery under this

Some knowledge of the current health and social care agenda as it effects older people and the delivery of services

General



You have a responsibility for ensuring that you are aware of the health & safety policies and procedures for NWF and that you take responsibility for your own health and safety whilst at work. Should you have any queries or questions you must raise these with your manager.

As we work with vulnerable adults, and come into contact with children, it is critical that you are able to recognise and respond to signs of or actual abuse and be aware of your responsibilities in relation to safeguarding. Training will be provided to support you in this area.

The organisation encourages and recognises the importance of personal development. You have a joint responsibility with NWF to work with your line manager to ensure that you are adequately skilled to perform your job and participate in the annual learning and development programme.

Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships and communication with residents, team members, visitors and other external professionals and agencies to support the delivery and development of quality services that meet the needs of our residents.

From time to time, employees might be asked to cover night shifts. The starting rate for this position is 12.60ph however, this would incase based on qualifications.
