Job Description

We're looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated person to work full-time as a Medicines Counter Assistant in our community pharmacy in Hampton Hill. The position is available immediately. The full-time hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm Mondays to Fridays. You will work with a pharmacist, a trainee pharmacist and a dispensary assistant. You will be trained to work effectively in the role. If you haven't already, you will complete a formal Medicines Counter Assistant (MCA) course which is recognised in the pharmacy industry.

You will learn a lot more about retail, health conditions, health services , blood pressure health & beauty products, managing prescriptions, and how to work well in a pharmacy. In particular, you will promote and help arrange our health services; vaccinations, travel clinic, ear wax removal, blood pressure checks, contraception, urinary tract infections, shingles, impetigo, insect bites, sore throat, sinusitis, earache, etc.

The main duties of your position will be to:

Meet and greet most of our walk-in customers at the counter and on the shop floor, and answer phone enquiries



Help and advise customers with product purchases, health services, etc.



Take from customers their requests for the dispensary team to prepare their prescription medicines



Give to customers their prescription medicines that are already prepared



Help customers request prescriptions from their surgery



Look after our visiting therapists and the therapy room



Buy retail products and process deliveries of products, using a full stock-control EPoS system



Process sales transactions at the till, and cash up at end of day



Help merchandise, promote and manage our retail stock, and keep the pharmacy and its retail shelves and products clean and tidy



Keep up to date with knowledge of health conditions and our retail products



The successful candidate should demonstrate:

Reliability in time-keeping and getting tasks done



A methodical and accurate approach to tasks



A history of working well in a team



At least 1 year of paid work in a pharmacy in the U.K., preferably full-time



Fluency in English



The ability to learn on the job



References must be provided that support the above. The following will be strong advantages to candidates - previous experience as a Medicines Counter Assistant in a community pharmacy, previous completion of the pharmacy Medicines Counter Assistant (MCA) course, and knowledge of typical community health conditions and pharmacy retail products.

The salary is negotiable, particularly for candidates with strong & relevant paid work experience in U.K. pharmacy.
