To provide safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, supporting the pharmacist in delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring the smooth, compliant running of the pharmacy.
Accurately dispense NHS and private prescriptions in line with legal, professional, and company standards.
Prepare, label, and assemble medication with attention to detail and within set timeframes.
Perform final checks if accredited to do so (e.g., ACT/Accuracy Checking Dispenser).
Manage stock levels, rotate stock, and check expiry dates to minimise waste.
Receive, unload, and check pharmacy deliveries, ensuring accurate stock input.
Assist in ordering stock, controlled drugs, and special-order items as required.
2. Patient Service & Advice
Provide excellent customer service, responding to patient queries professionally and sensitively.
Offer advice within your competence on over-the-counter medicines, referring to the pharmacist when necessary.
Support patients with NHS and pharmacy services such as NMS, blood pressure checks, smoking cessation, flu vaccinations, etc.
Promote a positive patient experience and maintain confidentiality at all times.
3. Pharmacy Services Support
Assist in preparing blister packs/DOSSETTs and compliance aids (if part of the service).
Support the pharmacist in delivering clinical and public health services.
Help maintain accurate patient medication records (PMR).
Ensure prescription exemptions, EPS nominations, and administrative tasks are completed accurately.
4. Regulatory Compliance
Adhere to GPhC regulations, SOPs, health & safety guidelines, and company policies.
Follow procedures for handling controlled drugs, including record-keeping and balance checks.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the dispensary and retail area.
Participate in audits, accuracy checks, and quality improvement activities.
5. Teamwork & Professional Development
Work collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, and the wider team to ensure smooth workflow.
Support and train new staff where appropriate.
Participate in regular training to maintain dispensary qualification and stay updated with pharmacy practice developments.
Attend team meetings, reviews, and training sessions as required.
Essential Requirements
NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Pharmacy Services / Dispensing.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and reliability.
Ability to work calmly under pressure in a busy environment.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
