Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank Pharmacy Support Worker / Pharmacy Second Checker to join our Pharmacy team at at HMP Leeds, a category B male prison located near Leeds city centre. The prison houses men on remand as well as those who are sentenced and is very busy, with a high turnover of inmates.
This is a fantastic opportunity start or continue your career in Pharmacy and Healthcare - no previous experience is necessary, and we will support you with lots of training and development opportunities.

Hours
This is a bank role so the hours are flexible between the hours of 7am - 9pm on weekdays, 8am - 4pm on weekends.
Salary
This is a bank role and the rate is 15.80 per hour.

What you'll be doing
As our new Bank Pharmacy Support Worker, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:
  • Support the onsite Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Manager, as well as the wider healthcare team
  • Work from the medication rooms on the wings
  • Second check medication before dispensing to patients on medication rounds
  • Contribute to services such as medicine reconciliation, managing stock medicines and transportation of medicines
  • Provide support to ensure a safe and secure medicines management service, following policies, procedures and standard operating procedures
  • Be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals - primary care, substance misuse and mental health

Our new Pharmacy Support Worker will have:
  • No experience is necessary - we are looking for someone with a keen interest in Pharmacy, and keen to pursue a career in Pharmacy and Healthcare within a prison
  • An NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Dispensing would be a bonus, but isn't essential
  • Ideally have medicines handling experience, although not essential
  • Have a proactive approach, with excellent communication skills

Prior to joining Practice Plus Group I spent almost 10 years working in community, but I have found that the prison environment is where I feel I can utilise my skills and truly make a difference. I see patients with complex health issues, I help keep them informed about their medication and support out-patients in managing their conditions day to day.
