Bishop's Waltham Surgery is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to support medicines optimisation and safe prescribing within the practice. The role plays a key part in managing medication changes, supporting clinicians, and improving patient care, including the accurate completion of
following hospital discharge summaries, outpatient letters, and other clinical correspondence.
Accurately reconcile medications and update patient records in line with clinical guidance and practice protocols.
Code and document medication changes appropriately and forward to clinicians for review and authorisation where required.
Identify prescribing discrepancies, medication queries, or safety concerns and escalate appropriately to a GP or pharmacist.
Support medicines optimisation initiatives within the practice and wider PCN where applicable.
Prescription & Administrative Support
Support repeat prescribing processes in accordance with practice SOPs.
Process prescription requests and manage prescription-related queries from patients and community pharmacies.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date medication records on the clinical system (e.g. EMIS / SystmOne).
Ensure timely completion of workflow tasks and document management.
Patient & Practice Support
Provide medication-related support and advice to patients within scope of practice.
Liaise with community pharmacies, secondary care, and other healthcare providers as needed.
Support clinical staff by reducing prescribing workload and improving efficiency.
Governance & Professional Practice
Work in line with medicines legislation, practice policies, and SOPs.
Maintain patient confidentiality and data protection standards at all times.
Participate in audits, quality improvement activities, and medicines safety work.
Commit to ongoing professional development.
Person SpecificationEssential
Qualified Pharmacy Technician with GPhC registration (or working towards).
Experience completing medication changes and medicines reconciliation.
Experience using
Docman
or similar document management systems.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Desirable
Experience working in a GP practice or primary care setting.
Knowledge of EMIS or SystmOne.
Experience supporting medicines optimisation and repeat prescribing processes.
