Job Description

Barwell and Hollycroft Medical Centre is a well-established, GMS Practice with enthusiastic GPs supported by excellent management, nursing and administrative teams. We are a thriving, forward thinking practice based over 2 sites in Barwell & Hinckley in Leicestershire.

We are a friendly, patient-focused GP Practice committed to delivering high-quality healthcare to our community. We are now seeking a motivated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our clinical team and support the practice in providing excellent patient care.

We currently have a vacancy for a phlebotomist for 15 hours a week, who is highly motivated and committed to providing high quality patient care, to join our current team.

3 hours a day 8am - 11am

Renumeration: 13 per hour

Our Practice:

Current List size 15,250+

List size increasing with New Build premises at Barwell and new developments at Hollycroft.

Current team of 4 partners, 7 Salaried GPs, 2 Paramedics, 3 Nurses, 2 HCAs, 1 Nurse Associate, plus additional roles staff including Clinical Pharmacist, Mental Health Practitioners etc.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Perform venepuncture procedures safely, efficiently, and with minimal discomfort to patients.

Correctly label, handle, and store blood samples in accordance with pathology laboratory requirements.

Ensure patient identification is accurately confirmed prior to all procedures.

Maintain accurate and timely records using the clinical system (SystmOne).

Perform duties such as processing samples including urine samples

Assist the nurse team with routine safety / IPC checks.

Stock checks when required.

Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control policies and health & safety guidance.

Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, colleagues, and external services.

Contribute to the smooth running of the practice and support the wider clinical team as required.

Person Specification

Essential:

Evidence of competency in venepuncture (qualification or equivalent training/experience).

Knowledge of infection control and health & safety procedures.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Full UK driving license

Desirable:

Previous experience in primary care, general practice, or NHS setting.

Familiarity with clinical IT systems (e.g. SystmOne).

Awareness of safeguarding and confidentiality policies within healthcare.

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

Reporting potential risks identified

Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work

Attending training courses for BLS and other mandatory training required for the role.
