Job Description

Summerside Medical Centre is a small, friendly practice located in Leith, Edinburgh. We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring phlebotomist to join our team and support our clinical services.

Previous experience preferred but not essential as full training will be given. You must have the ability to work independently and as part of team with excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Vision and Docman clinical systems is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Duties:

To collect blood samples as requested by medical staff and nursing staff from patients by venepuncture to enable appropriate tests to be carried out. Measure and record blood pressure, height and weight. Collect and process urine samples as required. CoaguChek monitoring (Warfarin) To ensure all policies and protocols for handling, labelling and documenting the collection of specimens are adhered to. To ensure delivery of specimens to appropriate base for timed uplift. To inform appropriate medical/nursing staff if specimen is not obtained. To adhere to policies relating to the handling of contaminated blood and infection control to ensure safety of both patients and staff To follow procedures for reporting incidents involving patients or staff, with particular reference to needlestick injury. Responsibility for ensuring phlebotomy equipment is kept in a clean and safe manner. To ensure compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and Divisional policies and procedures at all times.
The post is part time, 20 hours per week.
