Php Laravel Engineer

Southampton, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

PHP Laravel Engineer

At Carsa, we've positioned our customers and colleagues at the heart of everything we do. Our ethos revolves around making the car buying journey seamless for our customers while ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service at every touchpoint.

With a proud presence across ten retail outlets nationwide, Carsa maintains industry leadership with a commitment to high group standards. Our state-of-the-art preparation centre ensures that each vehicle meets our stringent quality benchmarks, reflecting our dedication to excellence.

As we embark on an exciting phase of growth, Carsa is expanding rapidly, so ensuring our technical teams have a strong professional culture focusing on quality and adhering to delivery targets is key.

The Position

We currently have two small, remote teams made up of PHP and TypeScript software engineers. We've built software that is used for our CRM, helping mechanics prepare vehicles, helping price vehicles, stock check vehicles, as well as marketing them and selling them online.

Due to our continued growth as a business, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Laravel PHP Engineer to work in our technical engineering team to help us build in house software that powers the business.

Our culture is that our development team is in direct contact with our customers and end users (rather than being considered a backroom or support resource). We work using an agile approach and utilise the best tools that we can. You will be familiar with working in this way and embrace collaborative working. We haven't specified the number of years of experience required, but we are looking for people who can hit the ground running, and consider themselves expert.

We use AI extensively both in our products and with our engineering processes. This includes leveraging AI to surface insights from vehicle data, streamline customer support investigations, and accelerate root cause analysis, as well as using the latest tooling to support engineers in coding, review, debugging, and documentation. Our approach is to treat AI as a collaborator that helps our teams work smarter and faster, while keeping human judgement and expertise at the centre of everything we build.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the systems that run our business. You will work closely with other members of the product and engineering team to ensure that our systems are reliable, scalable, and secure.

Requirements

Essential Experience and Skills

Our products are written in PHP, so experience in PHP is essential. These applications use MySQL databases - so an in-depth working knowledge of SQL is key. We host in AWS, so experience with cloud deployments and modern CI / CD practices is essential.

PHP (with a Framework - Laravel is what we are using) SQL Front End JavaScript (ideally React) Git
Our ideal candidate would also have:

Software design skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to interact with stakeholders at all levels of the business Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on driving results

Desirable

We are moving to event driven, serverless Typescript applications, hosted on AWS. For these applications we use DynamoDB as our NoSQL datastores. This transition is underway, so expertise in these technologies would also be welcome.

For bonus points, you may have experience in the Automotive or Retail sectors and/or you may have experience or knowledge of these tools:

AWS - EC2/RDS Typescript Lambda DynamoDB
