We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to lead the transformation of our integrated musculoskeletal (iMSK) services within Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. This is a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of physiotherapy services by implementing innovative technologies and driving system-wide improvements across the MSK pathway.


You will work closely with our Consultant Physiotherapist, service leads, and a wide range of stakeholders to deliver impactful change that enhances patient care and service efficiency.


We are looking for proven experience in project management, ideally within healthcare or NHS settings.

Strong understanding of service transformation and continuous improvement methodologies. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment. Passion for innovation and improving patient outcomes

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Responsible for managing and delivering projects which are aligned with the physiotherapy strategy within Somerset Foundation Trust. The projects will be those which aim to contribute to meeting the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan and relevant Operational Planning Guidance in addition to local transformation programmes.


You will lead on business case development for any projects, monitor performance and support the current transformation projects.


The role will also necessitate whole system project delivery and function as a key link to external bodies such as primary care and the ICB. Working with project managers and workstream leads to assist with securing funding for projects, understanding and communicating priorities and supporting evaluation of projects once they have achieved 'live' status. You will be expected to understand the national, regional, and local workstreams and contexts into which physiotherapy projects fit. The role will bring project management methodology and expertise to establish real transformation and continuous improvement across Physiotherapy services.


As project manager you will initially lead the implementation of our iMSK transformation and adoption of innovative technologies, within the physiotherapy service and wider pan-system MSk pathway.


The role requires the post-holder to work with a high level of autonomy and without direct supervision.

Gather, provide, and receive information, to/from a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. To maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders such as, Operational and programme leads, Somerset ICB commissioning leads, Digital transformation team, NHSE regional teams. Ability to present complex information to a range of professional groups, including clinicians and senior managers. To use effective communication skills to present to internal and external stakeholders on project delivery / performance and outcome information. To use effective communication to ensure that project delivery, performance and outcome information is coordinated with other relevant projects across Somerset. Responsible for leading and delivering performance management of the project. Ensures appropriate project and change management programs, are prepared and implemented and facilitate changes in working practices arising from the implementation of any new systems or pathways or processes. Develop detailed project plans to ensure delivery of the project. Liaise with stakeholders across Somerset to deliver the project. Develop benefits realisation plans. Coordination to deliver against agreed quality standards. Gather, manage, and interpret highly complex facts and information which forms the basis for dissemination to other. Work with highly complex data, facts and situations requiring analysis, interpretations, and comparisons. Monitor and review project activity and exercise judgement in terms of deciding which issues should be escalated. Managing the input required to enable the evaluation to be completed by the physiotherapy senior leadership team. Monitor progress of the project against agreed project plans and adjust the plans, if necessary, e.g., if a milestone date has not been met. Identify and manage project risks Responsible for analysis of relevant data output Demonstrate effective and transparent decision making, basing decisions on full option appraisals. Clearly articulate relative benefits and dis-benefits of options and support recommendations with a clear and concise rationale.
