Are you passionate about developing sustainable solutions and eager to upscale material recycling processes? Cellcycle is seeking a meticulous and driven Pilot-plant Technician with an interest or experience in chemical engineering, mainly continuous hydrometallurgical processes including material and solution transfer, tank leaching, purification, precipitation, crystallization, and filtration.

The primary objective of the Pilot Plant Technician is to provide comprehensive technical support to project managers and R&D professionals by installing equipment, assembling piping systems, conducting pilot plant trials, and performing routine maintenance on associated equipment within the pilot plant facility.

Key Responsibilities:



Install, connect, operate, and maintain pilot plant equipment and circuits, and perform experimental procedures to support project objectives.

Conduct pilot plant tests and collaborate closely with project leaders to meet defined performance targets.

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) in alignment with UK standards and proactively review and improve operational practices.

Contribute to the design and modification of pilot plant processes and facilities, including the creation of technical drawings and sketches.

Plan and schedule daily tasks to ensure timely delivery of project milestones and outcomes.

Ensure all procedures are consistently followed, with a strong focus on generating accurate, reproducible, and properly documented data.

Uphold high housekeeping standards to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working environment in the pilot plant.

Collaborate effectively with team members, sharing knowledge and technical insights to ensure smooth and efficient pilot plant operations.

Communicate regularly with chemical and equipment suppliers to request quotes, clarify specifications, and ensure timely procurement of materials and components.

Explain and demonstrate the operation of experimental setups to visitors, including project partners, stakeholders, and external collaborators.

Experience / Qualification / Skills:



Extensive hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, and modification of chemical, metallurgical, or pilot-scale processing equipment.

Relevant qualifications, such as a mechanical trade certificate and/or a diploma or certificate in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, are highly desirable.

Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to handle chemicals and biological materials in accordance with health and safety protocols.

Proven ability to conduct both routine and non-routine experiments independently, with minimal supervision.

Skilled in data collection, analysis, and presentation, aligned with defined project outcomes.

Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with CAD software is advantageous.

Possession of a valid UK driving licence.

Strong team player, with the ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to shared goals.

Sound understanding of relevant policies, procedures, and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply them appropriately.

Demonstrated personal attributes such as initiative, reliability, and a proactive attitude that positively contribute to team performance and workplace culture.

Physical Requirements:



Office-based duties involve sitting, standing, light manual handling, moving between office and pilot plant areas, and extended periods of computer use.

Labour-intensive tasks require frequent manual handling, prolonged standing, and physical effort during equipment setup and operation.

Industrial facility work includes lifting, operating machinery and manipulators, and standing for extended periods in a production or pilot plant environment.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when handling hazardous substances and Class I biological materials, in accordance with safety regulations.

Duties will be performed in controlled environments where hazardous chemicals or materials are used, requiring strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols.
