The Opportunity

We\'re excited to open an opportunity within our Nuclear Decommissioning (ND) side of the business within EDF for our next Safety Case Integration Engineer. The Nuclear Decommissioning Engineer is responsible for providing expert technical support and intelligent customer oversight to Nuclear Operations to manage safe decommissioning in accordance with all licenses, regulatory bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Engineer works within a multi-discipline team within the broader ND Transfer and Deconstruction function. As well as providing technical input into decommissioning activities, the role requires frequent interaction with colleagues, internal and external, so building stakeholder relationships to ensure smooth operational delivery is paramount to this role.

Pay, benefits and culture

We can offer a competitive salary of \xc2\xa354,391 - \xc2\xa384,892 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. You\'ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience, and qualifications. We\'re open to flexible working with contractual locations being primarily based at Gloucester Business Park or Atlantic Quay offices however, happy for home working on occasion. With this said, there will be a requirement to attend the office on a business need basis.

What you\'ll be doing

Regular engagement with Magnox and NDA is essential to facilitate the strategic coordination of decommissioning activities and ensure a smooth transition, in accordance with NLFA guidelines.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Engineer is tasked with making technical decisions that align with their area of expertise. To make these decisions, you\'ll be working regularly with Group Heads, Engineering Manager, and Head of Functions.

Other roles and responsibilities also include:

  • Providing assistance in the production of the PDSC and all associated technical deliverables, encompassing Radwaste, Plant & Structures, and Faults and Hazards schedules. This may entail assuming Safety Case Management responsibilities when necessary and supervising contractor personnel.
  • Taking the lead in integrating the PDSC with all other relevant decommissioning workstreams.
  • Supporting the adaptation of current company processes and management systems to facilitate the development of the PDSC.
  • Assisting in the formulation and execution of the PDSC implementation plan in collaboration with station teams.
  • Engaging in governance and oversight tasks, including presentations to program boards and other pertinent forums.
  • Exerting influence over a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
  • Spearheading continuous collaboration and synergy initiatives with our Magnox counterparts to ensure the exchange of knowledge and to optimize value for both EDF and the Client.
Who you are

As our next Safety Case Integration Engineer, you will hold a minimum qualification of an HNC or a higher degree in engineering or a related scientific field. Additionally, possessing Chartered Engineer Status or its equivalent is highly desirable. Ideally you will have an understanding of the decommissioning process, good knowledge of AGR engineering, design, safety case and operations, and have been part of teams responsible for project delivery. Previous experience as an Architect Engineer (AE1/2/3 qualification) and/or Safety Case Management role holder (RE, Author, Verifier, Case Officer) is desirable however, not essential.

Alongside academic qualifications, you will exhibit strong organisational and interpersonal skills. The role also requires the ability to offer expert technical advice within the Group\'s designated areas of responsibility so effective communication skills, adaptable to various audiences and communication tools, are essential. Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Financial Systems is expected, and intermediate proficiency in IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, is a valuable asset.
