AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY HAS ARISEN FOR 2 STUDENT PLANNING OFFICERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT SECTION OF THE COUNCIL. THESE POSTS WOULD BE 12 MONTH FIXED TERM ROLES STARTING IN JULY 2025.
Newport is a city on the rise and has ambitious growth and regeneration ambitions. Alongside this, the city is also home to beautiful countryside and numerous heritage assets providing a diverse environment to work in. The role of the postholders will be to assist in all matters relating to the Development Management service, to include collection, recording, compilation and analysis of information on applications, appeals or enforcement and the validation of applications. The role also requires the postholder to be responsible for a personal caseload of planning and related applications to include negotiation with applicants, site appraisals, investigations and the preparation of reports and recommendations. The postholder will also provide pre-application advice on minor and householder development and be part of a duty officer rota.
Placement students will gain a valuable and insightful experience of working in a busy Development Management section with Placemaking at the heart of everything we do. The placement experience can also count for up to 12 months of the 24 months' experience required for the RTPI's Assessment of Professional Competence.
An ability to drive and access sites for the purpose of undertaking site visits is desirable.
Candidates must either hold or be working towards a recognised RTPI accredited qualification in Town Planning.
