An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Plant Department Manager

to join our independent family-run Garden Centre.

Hours

- Full time (alternate weekends).

About the Role



We are looking for a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual to oversee the daily operations of our Plant Department, which includes all aspects of plants, growing media, stoneware, and garden aggregates.

You will be working in a dynamic, customer-focused environment where plant knowledge, commercial awareness, and strong visual merchandising skills are essential.

As Plant Department Manager, you will take full ownership of stock selection and ordering, and collaborate closely with the management team to drive departmental success. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact and leave your mark on a key area of our business.

Previous experience in a garden retail environment is highly desirable, but we will also consider outstanding candidates with in-depth horticultural or retail experience outside of a garden centre environment.

What We're Looking For



A strong passion for plants and horticulture. Previous experience in a garden retail environment is highly desirable. Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to lead and develop a team. Commercial mindset with a creative approach to seasonal displays and promotions.

Key Responsibilities



Oversee the day-to-day management of the Plant Area. Lead, motivate, and support the plant team, including seasonal and weekend staff. Manage stock effectively, including purchasing, regular stock takes, and discounting. Analyse sales data, manage wastage, monitor pricing and review invoices. Order stock in line with seasonal trends, footfall, and demand. Merchandise and maintain inspiring, sales-focused plant displays. Develop seasonal offers and promotions to maximise revenue. Ensure excellent customer service is delivered by yourself and the team at all times. Ensure plants are well cared for, to ensure stock quality and drive sales. Maintain a safe and clean working environment for staff and customers.
