Job Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Leader to support our team in a nurturing environment focused on early childhood education. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a passion for working with children. This role requires an individual who can manage daily activities effectively while fostering a positive atmosphere for both children and staff.

To work as part of the playgroup team and provide leadership in providing safe, high-quality education and care for pre-school and pre-pre-school children.

To fulfil legal and statutory requirements, develop a collaborative vision & a 3-year development plan.

Develop & maintain all policies & procedures in line with current practice & legislation, working closely with the Management Committee.

The Playgroup Leader is responsible for the day-to-day running of the group, planning, preparing, and delivering play-based activities and ensuring that there is a safe, caring and welcoming environment for the children and their families.

Duties



Develop a collaborative vision & a 3-year development plan. Lead & manage all aspects of the playgroup including staff, budget, planning, teaching & learning, assessment & record-keeping, health & safety, safeguard, effective management of resources, parental involvement & develop best practice in pre-school provision. Enhance the playgroup provision, seek additional finance opportunities. Develop & maintain all policies & procedures in line with current practice & legislation. Liaise with stakeholders, outside agencies as & when appropriate. Lead staff training & provide induction & support to volunteers & students. Maintain close links with Chapel Road PS. Maximise opportunities to develop links within the community. Secure accountability termly to the management committee through a leader's summative report include the presentation of an annual leader's report to parents at the AGM. Promote the vision & values of the playgroup through the highest standards in professional conduct. Communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues to ensure a smooth operation of daily activities. Manage classroom behaviour and provide guidance to children, encouraging their social and emotional development. Drive initiatives that promote learning through play, ensuring each child's individual needs are met. Engage with children during playtime, facilitating interactions that enhance their learning experiences.

Requirements



Previous experience in childcare or early childhood education is highly desirable. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage groups of children effectively. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written. A genuine passion for working with children and understanding their developmental needs. Ability to drive initiatives that foster a supportive learning environment. Experience working with children in a nursery or similar setting is an advantage.

Skills and Qualifications



Essential



QCF Level 3 in Early Years Care & Education or equivalent i.e. degree in Early Childhood Studies. At least 2 years paid experience in an educational setting within the last 5 years. Demonstrate at interview the competence to fulfil the playgroup leader role. Have knowledge and practical experience of Early Years legislation relevant to the provision of sessional care for pre-school age children. Have experience working with children with additional needs. Experience of managing staff and students, including staff appraisals.

Desirable



Have recently completed Safeguarding and Child Protection Training. Hold a current First Aid Certificate Hold a current Food Hygiene Certificate Be willing to fulfill QCF Level 5 qualification

Pay: 16.50-17.50 per hour
