This Support Worker specialises in play and activities support for children and young people (CYP) within our Learning & Leisure service. This is a great opportunity for students wishing to work in any or all college/university holidays and build up experience and knowledge that may lead to a career in health and social care or at the least be a great addition to a CV. The post-holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a planned programme of Learning and Leisure activities in our holiday playschemes for children and young people aged 5-18 with learning disabilities. Most of these activities will take place on an outreach basis and in the community including day trips, visits to parks and fun activities so applicants need to have the confidence, energy and resilience to support our service users in this capacity.

Available to work school holidays, half term and summer
Willing and able to offer physical support to service users, including moving and handling safely
Qualifications NVQ Level 2 Children & Young people or equivalent desired
Knowledge & understanding Awareness of issues affecting children and young people with learning disabilities
Understanding of and sensitivity to the discrimination experienced by members of vulnerable and/or minority groups
Understanding of child protection and safeguarding
Awareness of different life skills which are appropriate for children and young people to learn
Experience of working with children with learning disabilities, including children with high support needs
Experience of delivering activities to children aged 5-18
Strong interpersonal skills
Able to manage time and workload effectively
Able to work on own initiative, proactively resolving issues
Able to maintain professional boundaries and handle confidential information appropriately
Committed to enabling choice, independence, and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities and/or Autism
Ability to engage people with learning disabilities in challenging, stimulating and enjoyable activities
