You'll be joining our
Polar Estates Team
which provides everything needed to support life in Antarctica and is made up of skilled individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.
Reporting directly to the Head of Polar Estates, You'll help us to deliver leadership and management to a team of engineers, providing technical oversight and project delivery in the polar regions. You will be the senior engineer in the BAS Polar Estates Team. You will be proactive and a champion for good H&S practices and UK statutory requirements. Be a proactive member of the Estates management team and to actively engage with in-house capital projects. Accepting new assets into service and maintaining for service life. Coordinate engineering requirements through design, construction, and commissioning stages of all Polar Estates projects. This includes responsibility for managing acceptance and delivery on behalf of the Estates senior responsible owner. Provide site supervision and quality management support to project delivery teams. Manage the Estates Engineering Team, providing technical advice and coordinating BAS stakeholders relating to engineering matters in support of key project decisions. Whilst deployed, this role will manage the team coordinating site management, engineering support and technical assurance during construction and commissioning.
Current projects the team are working on in Antarctica include a new fuel infrastructure, solar PV, accommodation refurbishment, energy monitoring, handover of Discovery Building at Rothera, and a new Hangar for BAS Aircraft.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:
Technical Management of engineering staff at Cambridge, ensuring skills, equipment and records are kept up to date
Management, oversight and coordination of project and programme delivery
Preparation and upkeep of the documentation including manuals, reports, method statements and procedures
Ensuring that regular inspections and condition surveys of BAS facilities with appropriate actions undertaken
Workforce planning
Preparation and management of relevant budgets
Production of reports
Ensure the Health and Safety Policy is implemented including risk and COSHH assessments

For the role of Polar Estates Engineering Manager, we are looking for somebody who has:
Proven track record in engineering and construction project delivery and maintenance planning
Knowledge of building systems
Experience of energy efficiency and sustainable systems
NVQ, HNC or BTEC in the appropriate discipline
Track record of time/work management skills and ability to progress several tasks in short succession with minimal supervision
Project management experience
Good interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate technical information to a wide range individuals and groups, both orally and in the written form
Ability to make technical assessments and evaluate site information and data.
Ability to make decisions and provide options for solutions to tasks, combined with a clear understanding of when assistance/consultation should be sought
Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities
