Wales, United Kingdom

Job Description

Politically Restricted: Yes

Welsh Language essential: No. The ability to speak and write fluently is desirable for this role.

The Social Services and Housing Directorate covers a range of policy areas and includes a number of grant funded teams with more specific remits. The remit of the directorate includes social services and health; housing; asylum seekers, refugees and migration; community safety, including issues affecting Fire and Rescue Authorities and the Armed Forces community. The Directorate also provides a significant link to the National Adoption Service and Foster Wales.

Many of the issues that fall within the remit of the Directorate are cross-cutting and require cross-policy and cross-sector working, working closely with local authorities and a range of other partners, with a focus on improving outcomes for citizens across Wales.

Based within the Social Services and Housing Directorate in the WLGA, the post holder will provide specialist policy advice and support on all aspects of social services and social care issues (children and adults), and their interface with health care services and the NHS, from a local government perspective.
