Job description
Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent



Play a key role in coordinating operational resources and activities relating to the provision of the Council's porterage and mail services.



Our highly dedicated Porterage team provide the efficient and effective operation of porterage and mail services to all council premises. We are responsible for incoming & outgoing mail, parcels and goods, storage, control and distribution of furniture, equipment, supplies and materials. We provide security of the work base and stores as well as recycling and disposal of confidential waste. Complying with health and safety regulations, we offer an excellent service to internal and external customers and partners of the Council that occupy our buildings.



This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.30am and 5pm. Depending on the needs of the service you may need to work occasional evenings and weekends.



You'll have a full driving licence.



What you'll be doing





Managing a team of 14 staff, you'll identify and prioritise key tasks whilst ensuring there are sufficient resources and support to operate effectively. You'll give clear direction and provide effective people and performance management by setting objectives and agreeing outcomes. Undertaking Health and safety inspections and audits, you'll ensure accurate stock control and work is carried out to the agreed service standards. You'll oversee service compliance and be responsible for the mail Xray machine, and the provision of effective Risk Assessment Methods Statement. You'll monitor budgets for staff, materials, mail services, equipment and consumables and produce financial reports. Working with internal stakeholders and external contractors, companies, health and safety and public sector bodies, you'll ensure mail and porterage standards are in place and meets their needs. You'll plan for new mail and porterage services to sites, and review service provision as they change.



What you'll need





With experience of managing people ideally within a porterage and mail room environment, you'll have extensive knowledge of health & safety legislation governing this area of work. Confident, with the ability to communicate effectively, you'll have strong leadership skills to manage conflict and dispute. Using good interpersonal skills, you'll be able to liaise with internal colleagues and external contractors and the public. Highly organised, well-motivated, with the ability to work under pressure, you'll be able to prioritise tasks to meet set objectives, targets or deadlines. Enthusiastic and motivated, you'll be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service.
