Fixed Term Contract - 36 months.
The Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Bayne lab within the Institute of Cell Biology at the University of Edinburgh. This postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) position, funded by the Wellcome Trust, will focus on exploring how RNA interference contributes to adaptation in the human fungal pathogen, Cryptococcus . The project aims to elucidate mechanisms and functions of RNAi in adaptive gene regulation, employing a range of approaches including sRNA sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics, genome engineering and other molecular biology techniques. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive research group embedded in a thriving community of fungal and RNA biology research.
This post is fixed-term (3 years) and full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.
Your skills and attributes for success:
Proficiency in RNA-based molecular biology techniques including RNA profiling
Experience in bioinformatic analysis of NGS data
Expertise in one or more other relevant areas: fungal biology, proteomics and/or CRISPR-mediated genome engineering
A keen interest in understanding molecular mechanisms of genome regulation, and the ability to devise and test hypotheses to drive a project forward
Excellent organisation, problem-solving and communication skills
