The post



This full-time post is available on a fixed-term basis from 01/08/2025 to 31/07/2028 in the Faculty.



The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Prof. Francesca Palombo. This University-funded post is available from 1st August 2025 to 31st July 2028. The successful applicant will design and construct a microscope that combines Brillouin and Raman spectroscopy and apply it to biological samples.



The post will include delivering research outputs in the form of weekly reports, contributions to conferences, and scientific articles.


About you



The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.



Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (

Physics, Optics

, Photonics, Optical Engineering

or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge in laser spectroscopy and imaging, ideally in vibrational or acoustic microscopy. Knowledge of mechanical testing and complementary molecular spectroscopy methods is desirable.
