Job Description

We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our dynamic group at the Department of Biology, University of Oxford. The Verd lab is interested in the diversity of biological form, how it is generated and how it evolves. In particular we focus on the evolution and evolvability of vertebral counts, and we use various species of Lake Malawi cichlids as our model organism. To address these questions, we combine a series of interdisciplinary approaches ranging from experimental embryology and fluorescent microscopy to mathematical modelling. The lab is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative.

The successful applicant will be managing their own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will also adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols. Collaboration in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and presenting papers and posters will be part of the role.

You must hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience. You will have previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations and the ability to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings are essential.
