Faculty of Environment, Science & Economy
This full-time post is available immediately for a period of 2 years.
The Faculty wishes to recruit a post at either Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Postdoctoral Research Associate levels to undertake research in the economics of biodiversity, climate and natural resources. This position will support the work of Professor Ben Groom, the Dragon Capital Chair in Biodiversity Economics, which is in the Land, Environment, Economics and Policy (LEEP) Institute at the University of Exeter Business School.
About you

  • Using spatial and temporal data to analyse land-use change, including the simultaneous loss and gain of terrestrial habitat, focussing on those areas of importance for biodiversity and ecosystem conservation and which are under threat: e.g. tropical rainforests under threat from development from agriculture, logging or other economic activities;
  • Perform research into habitat and ecosystem regeneration and restoration in light of the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030);
  • A good understanding of micro-economic theory, welfare economics and econometric methods.
  • Strong background in applied micro-econometrics;
  • Experience applying econometric methods to economic and environmental problems;
  • Knowledge of STATA, R, Python and/or other relevant programming skills for undertaking applied analysis (e.g. machine learning) and handling large geographical or other data sets using GIS or related tools;
  • Grounding in applied economics (theory and empirics) and environmental and resource economics or related discipline;
  • An ability to work with interdisciplinary teams on issues concerning the environment, natural capital, ecosystem services and biodiversity.
