Postdoctoral Research Scientist Cancer Immunology

Oxford, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cancer Immunology to join the Yang Shi group at Ludwig Cancer Research Oxford. Professor Shi's research group focuses on understanding the role of chromatin in human cancer, and this post will contribute to ongoing projects in cancer biology and immunology, with a particular emphasis on T-cell involvement in bladder cancer. This is an excellent opportunity for an exceptional and motivated scientist with a strong background in immunology or cancer immunology. You will bring expertise in T-cell biology, ideally with direct experience of T-cell function in bladder cancer. The role will suit someone with an adaptable approach, strong collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently after induction.

You will be collaborating with members of the Shi lab to investigate cancer and immune cell biology, design and perform original research, and adapt or develop new experimental protocols. You will analyse data, refine hypotheses, and manage your own academic research and administrative activities, including small-scale project management. You will contribute to the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations, and provide advice and support to other members of the group. Additional responsibilities include maintaining laboratory safety and housekeeping, supporting funding applications, and contributing to scientific discussions, seminars, and public engagement activities.

It is essential that you must hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in immunology or a relevant field, with previous laboratory experience working on T-cells. A background in T-cell biology in bladder cancer, alongside significant expertise in immunology or cancer immunology, is essential. You will have strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a strong publication record for your career stage, including first-author publications in internationally recognised journals. Experience of in vivo work is needed for this role.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by Ludwig.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 22 September 2025 will be considered. Please quote
