Job Description

The arts offer at WEST is wide-ranging and includes visual arts, music, media, dance and drama. As a member of the Arts Team, you will be key in ensuring young people have access to an exciting and creative arts programme that will be challenging, stimulating, fun,engaging and developmental. You will plan and deliver a high quality programme focused on our FiredUp4 Project. This involves delivering 'Try' activities to over 20 young people per month and delivering 'Clay Clubs' twice a week. The role will require you to work with Juniors (8 - 12 yrs) and/or Seniors (13 - 19 yrs) and/or Beyond (members with additional needs up to 25 yrs). Ideally you will have the following:

A varied portfolio that reflects a wide array of ceramic techniques and styles In-depth knowledge of pottery and ceramics, including proficiency in kiln operation Experience with young people from diverse backgrounds, inc. those with additional needs Proficiency in wheel throwing, surface design, glazing, clay lifecycle and hand-building techniques such as coil, pinch, and slab construction

FiredUp4 has been established by The WOOM Foundation in partnership with Kate Malone.FiredUp4 raises funds in partnership with OnSide, to place clay into the hands of hundreds of young people, providing studios, equipment, and training within the Network of Youth Zones across the UK.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES



Together with the Junior Club Manager, Senior Club Manager and our Arts Coordinator, develop and implement a programme that is exciting, challenging and ever- changing. To directly deliver a high-quality programme of activity that is exciting, safe, varied, innovative, developmental and directly responds to the diverse needs, concerns and interests of our members. Ability to enthuse others including core staff, youth workers, volunteers, and young people. To have great energy to establish positive relationships with young people and the wider youth work team and visitors to the Youth Zone. To respond to the needs of the young people through activities and project work. To work flexibly to ensure the needs of the members are met, including disadvantaged young people and those with disabilities or additional needs. To ensure that the members maintain a high standard of behaviour and discipline during sessions by making the area a hub of activity and fun. To ensure the participation of young people in activities and that their ideas contribute fully in the delivery of activities in a safe way. To encourage attendance and participation in your activities, particularly by young people who do not usually participate in art. To assist with any promotional activities and visits that take place at WEST Youth Zone. To actively promote the Youth Zone and positively contribute towards increasing Youth Zone membership. To promote and safeguard the welfare of young people at all times . To make the environment fun and the place young people want to be. To be an active member of the team and operate in line with the values and principles of WEST Youth Zone. To be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the welfare and safety of Youth Zone members is promoted and safeguarded, and to report any child protection concerns to the designated Child Protection Officers using the safeguarding policies, procedures and practice (training to be provided). Comply with all policies, procedures, and codes of conduct, with particular reference to Safeguarding, Health & Safety, and Equality and Diversity. To create prototypes, conduct research and create appropriate resources for sessions and activities To liase with the Arts Coordinator for any materials required and servicing of the kiln To prepare the space before session and manage clean-up afterwards To ensure the Art Room remains tidy and well-organised To utilise diverse demonstration methods to accommodate different learning styles. To ensure robust recording of attendances to sessions, as well as conducting evaluation in line with project goals and outcomes To assist with firing of students creations, including loading and unloading of kiln Carry out any other duties and admin as requested by management.

SELECTION CRITERIA



EXPERIENCE

Proven experience of working with young people aged 8-19 (or up to 25 with additional needs) in youth or playwork settings

Ability to teach pottery, modelling, wheel potting, ceramics and glaze work

A recognised qualification for pottery and ceramics or equivalent experience
