The Role

The Power Systems Expert Engineer will work with a global team responsible to design and implement Power Systems Network Analytics and other Smart Grid solutions to fulfil requirements of Transmission & Distribution Network operators and whole system operators using PowerFactory, Python and Machine learning & statistical algorithms and other solutions.

The Engineer also contributes to research and development of innovative solutions using machine learning, deep learning, RPA for global utilities to address operational & commercial challenges efficiently and effectively in their journey towards zero or low carbon economy.

Responsibilities

  • Work as Power Systems Analysis expert engineer/ developer in a complex agile customer projects to implement a new network analysis & analytics solutions leveraging expertise in Python, Machine Learning, commercial analytics, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, DPL and optimisation techniques for Electricity Network and Grid Operator.
  • Analyse requirements and understand functionality to be implemented using Python, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and energy modelling tools, and other tools and techniques.
  • Work with Business experts , business analyst , solution architect on day to day basis to develop existing Python-based tool and analyse data
  • Design the Python application to meet functional and non-functional requirements (high availability, high performance etc.)
  • Develop Python application with high quality and coding standards/ best practices.
  • Develop python interface with PowerFactory using python APIs and DPL or other techniques.
  • Deploy the Python code into various environments
  • Conduct code reviews and come up with improvements
  • Support SIT and UAT
  • Support cutover , go-live activities
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Experience in Python programming and its application for complex problem solving, optimisation, data processing etc.
  • Expertise in power system engineering, analysis and experience in power system component modelling in Python.
  • 4 to 6 years of Experience in DIgSILENT PowerFactory and DPL and Python programming on top of DPL.
  • Knowledge of the basics of power system engineering and some appreciation of the GB network is essential.
  • Expertise in Pandas, Numpy, Scipy ML libraries, matrix manipulation, Networkx scientific algorithms and Pyomo.
  • Expert knowledge in data management and visualization techniques in Python is desirable
  • Version Control using git is essential.
  • Experience using MS VBA scripting to be able to analyse and enhance the code.
  • Experience in linear programming and tools such as Gurobi/ CPLEX is plus.
  • Experience working with visualization libraries Python API is desirable.
  • Programming experience in DIgSILENT DPL, C/ C++ etc.
  • Expertise in Power Systems analysis functions such as Load Flows, Contingency, fault level calculations, stability assessment, Inertia Estimation etc.
  • Experience in Python based interface/ integration development with other systems running in different operating systems (using web service, remote procedure calls, APIs, database links etc.)
  • Experience in Linear Programming, mixed integer programming, algebraic modelling language ( AMPL )
  • Expertise in Mathematical algorithms
  • Problem Solving methods and algorithm development.
  • Prototype and evaluations.
  • Expertise in data processing for prediction, forecasting, transformation using Python
  • Expertise in Mathematical and constraint modelling
  • Experience in Visualization and reporting using Tableau/ Power BI is plus.
  • Knowledge of Electricity industry including Power Systems Network Planning, Electricity supply demand balancing, frequency control, Electricity markets, system operations etc.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environment with multi vendors
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
