We are seeking an outstanding PR and Media Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting our Communications, PR and Media and Events colleagues with the delivery of external and internal activity.


The post holder will provide a highly responsive reactive media handling capability and proactively create, seed stories and develop quality content using digital and social media. The PR and Media Officer will assist in delivering newsworthy, tailored, national and local media campaigns to increase awareness among our key stakeholders and will act as the first point of contact for calls from the media, dealing with press enquiries, and finding experts for media comment.


You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience.

What you'll do



Draft quality press releases within agreed protocols. Work closely with colleagues at all levels from across the University to gather information and obtain sign-off. Develop corporate content for dissemination via press releases, social media, websites and other distribution channels. Take responsibility for corporate messaging on social media across all platforms, monitoring external profiles and safeguarding the University's reputation. Provide all League table compilers with up-to-date content liaising with internal departments. Support academics on how they can promote their research/work and raise their profile in the media. Ensure the upkeep of the media enquiry log, relevant webpages, and news on the homepage; and leading on media monitoring, including writing and circulating summaries of media coverage, impact and analysis. Liaise with staff across Cardiff Met to identify potential news stories and important communications messages. Work with senior colleagues to research and write material for the University's corporate publications. This includes coordinating all content (inc. bilingual), proofreading and overseeing the quality of publications where appropriate. Quantify the impact of Cardiff Met's communications activity through gathering information from the external communications providers evaluating PR and reporting the results to the Management team.

What you'll bring



Experience in a communications/press/public relations/media orientated role. Demonstrable project management experience. Qualified to a degree level or equivalent in a communications/PR/marketing-related field.
