Job Title: Practical Tutor - Foundation Learning



Location: York

Salary: SP22 27,270 to SP25 29,676 per annum, pro rata



About Role:



To deliver high-quality, practical animal care sessions to Foundation Learning students, supporting the development of vocational skills, independence, and personal growth. The role focuses on engaging learners through hands-on animal care activities, promoting employability, and preparing them for progression into further education, training, or employment.

Key Responsibilities:



Plan and deliver engaging, practical animal care sessions tailored to the needs of Entry Level and Level 1 learners. Support students with additional learning needs, adapting delivery to meet individual learning styles and EHCP requirements. Supervise and guide learners in the safe handling, feeding, cleaning, and welfare of a variety of animals within the college's animal units. Collaborate with teaching staff, Learning Support Practitioners (LSPs), and support services to ensure inclusive and effective learning environments. Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring practical elements reflect current industry standards and learner progression goals. Monitor and assess learner progress through practical tasks, maintaining accurate records and contributing to reviews and reports. Promote positive behaviour, safety, and well-being in all learning environments. Participate in internal quality assurance processes and continuous professional development (CPD), including industry-specific training. Support enrichment activities, educational visits, and cross-college events that enhance the learner experience.

Essential Criteria:



Relevant vocational qualification (Level 3 or above) in Animal Care or a related field. Experience working with young people with additional learning needs or barriers to learning. Strong practical animal care skills and the ability to deliver hands-on learning in a safe and engaging way. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and promoting a positive learning environment.

Desirable Criteria:



Teaching qualification (e.g., Level 3 Award in Education and Training or willingness to work towards).

Experience in a further education or alternative provision setting. Knowledge of Foundation Learning programmes, including Entry Level and Level 1 qualifications. Familiarity with the needs of learners with EHCPs and strategies to support them effectively.

The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).
