Job Description

We are currently looking for a suitably qualified, experienced individual to join our friendly accountancy practice as a Practice Manager. This full-time, diverse role is based in our Kings Lynn offices but with a need to travel to our other offices on occasion.

Stephenson Smart (East Anglia) Limited [SSEA] are a well-established firm of accountants, based in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire; with offices in King's Lynn, Great Yarmouth, Fakenham, Wisbech, March, Downham Market and Acle . We have more than 140 dedicated staff spread across the organisation.

The role involves assisting the partners with the day-to-day management of the practice including;

managing the administration and accounting function and producing timely management accounts. lead on negotiating with key suppliers and oversee the firm's annual compliance checks undertake payroll for all offices and oversee some HR activities.
Previous accounting and payroll experience is essential. Proven HR experience would be desirable but is not essential.

Experience of working in an accountancy practice would be ideal but not essential as training will be given to the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be organised, friendly and proactive and will be confident in dealing with a wide variety of people. They should have a good IT and data management skills demonstrating competence in Xero, excel, word, outlook etc. They should also be capable of learning how to optimise IT systems to ensure the practice runs efficiently and effectively.

Overview



The Practice Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation through developing and maintaining effective and efficient processes. The Practice Manager will work closely with the partner group, overseeing the internal accounting operations and organisational compliance.

The Practice Manager will be supported by a small team of finance and administrative professionals at the Kings Lynn office.

Key Responsibilities



Finance:



Prepare and distribute the management accounts for SSEA within agreed timescales Monitor and report on key performance indicators Prepare and submit VAT returns for SSEA and associated entities as required Prepare and submit CT61 returns a required Monitor and forecast cashflow Extract relevant data as required for ad-hoc financial analysis and reports Support the Finance and Administration partner in the preparation of the financial statements Work with the Managing Partner in developing budgets and forecasting

Payroll/Pension:



Processing payroll by established deadlines which includes processing all aspects of SSEA's payroll (approx. 140 employees) Administer SSEA's employee pension scheme and maintain accurate information in respect of starter, leavers, contribution rates and completing the year end process (November)

HRM



Working closely with the deputy practice manager to optimise the use of the internal HR system Issue relevant HRM letters in respect of salary changes and promotions Support the partner group in HR matters as required. Undertake reconciliations and report on employee absence (annual leave, sickness absence etc

Compliance & Organisational Management



Plan and undertake all tasks associated with the preparation of SSEA's annual return (October - December) Manage the organisations portfolio of insurance policies. Attend all partner meetings and sub-committee meetings as required. Work individually and collaboratively with other key personnel on strategic projects Maintain and update organisational information including employee handbook, policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL qualifications, skills and attributes:



Qualifications



Minimum ACCA/ACA (Level 7) or equivalent

Experience



Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Skills



Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; proficiency in accounting software including DEXT, Xero, sage payroll and Microsoft Office Suite.

CIPD Foundation Certificate or similar

Experience



Experience of providing HR support within an organisational setting

Skills



Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a HR setting. Ability to keep the organisations HR policies up to date and compliant with Employment Law
