Set in a beautiful heritage building, DOCTORnow is a long established Private General Practice in Old Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire and, due to expansion, we have an exciting opportunity available for a practice nurse to join our growing team. This part time position is for a Friday only, hours of 08:30 - 17:00.

Job Purpose



The purpose of the post is to delivery of safe, high quality nursing services to the practice population. Working within the NMC Code of Conduct the post holder will take a role within the nurse team, using previous primary care experience to provide advanced nurse interventions and influence development of nursing service.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of safe and effective nursing care to the practice population. They will be expected to undertake a variety of duties and the description below is intended to indicate the range rather than set limits. To maintain the clinical nursing needs of the Practice, it is important that all staff are prepared to take on additional/relinquish existing duties as necessary

Practice Nurse Duties



1. Prioritise, organise, and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes a quality, patient focused service

2. Promote a learning environment with a no blame culture Carry out nursing interventions and measurements for patients using clinical judgement, providing delivery of high-quality patient focused Nursing Services to both private and corporate clients.

3. Administer medications by injection with the appropriate legal authorisation.

4. Recognise health promotion opportunities and give brief, focussed lifestyle advice using motivational interviewing techniques and undertake routine screening processes

5. Undertake initial assessment of patients presenting with wounds, produce treatment plans and refer to other services as necessary.

6. Measure circulation by recording Ankle Brachial Pressure Index and applying compression therapy to patients with venous leg ulcers.

7. Remove wound closure materials including sutures, clips and staples.

8. Take samples for the cervical screening programme according to recognised standards.

9. Provide ear care including removal of cerumen and provide education and advice, including Microsuction.

10. Administer vaccines to adults and children according to the immunisation schedules.

11. Provide a pre-travel health service including administration of vaccines and advice after undertaking appropriate risk assessment.

12. Develop and follow referral pathways for patients with specialist needs.

13. Provide a nurse-run asthma/diabetes/COPD service to patients to include screening, diagnosis, ongoing management, and referral to other agencies in line with NICE guidance and Quality and Outcome Framework indicators.

14. Develop effective systems for ongoing supervision of all health care staff, including mentorship for preceptor programmes and contributing to revalidation needs of nurse colleagues.

15. Advise on the cost-effective purchase of assets, equipment and other resources including staff costs.

16. Checking and maintenance of agreed stock levels of all vaccines, medication and, as required, other clinical supplies. Ensure monthly stock checks are carried out including conducting monthly stock checks in conjunction with the Finance Manager.

17. Complete statutory training/updating and mandatory training as defined by the practice.

18. Complete skills-specific training and regular updating.

19. Recognise and work within the professional code of conduct as regulated by the Nursing Council (NMC)

20. Participate in an annual individual performance review maintaining a record of own personal and professional development including the requirements of NMC revalidation.

21. Take responsibility for own development, learning and performance. Identify gaps in knowledge and skills and how further learning can enhance delivery of nursing service.

22. Follow appropriate infection control procedures.

23. Maintain work areas in a tidy and safe manner

24. Act in a way that recognises people's rights, interpreting them in a way that is consistent with practice procedures and policies and current legislation.

25. Respect the privacy, dignity, needs and beliefs of patients, carers, and colleagues.

Qualifications; skills and experience



1. Nursing qualification and NMC registration in place for at least 5 years and 2 years in a practice nurse role

2. Has knowledge and leadership skills to maintain compliance and awareness of process and policy related to the role

3. Demonstrates a managerial approach to work that is characterised by commitment, motivation, and energy.

4. Demonstrates confidence and proficiency in the use of IT systems, including Microsoft software (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook), to ensure accurate documentation, effective communication, and reliable reporting.

5. Reliable and flexible -- able to adapt to the changing needs of the Practice

6. Able to work calmly and efficiently, even when under pressure

7. Ability to effectively deal with complaints and their effective resolution

At least 2 years' post qualification experience as a practice nurse or equivalent preferred.

Schedule: Fridays, occasional Saturdays, holiday/sickness cover

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: 17.00-20.00 per hour
