Position Overview:
The Prep Chef plays a vital role in the kitchen by ensuring that ingredients and workstations are properly prepared for service. This role supports the wider kitchen team by handling food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring smooth operations during busy periods. The Prep Chef helps maintain efficiency and consistency, contributing to an excellent dining experience for guests.
Key Responsibilities:Food Preparation
Wash, peel, chop etc and prepare ingredients according to recipes and instructions.
Measure, portion, and store prepared items for use during service.
Prepare sauces, marinades, garnishes, and other pre-service essentials.
Ensure proper storage and labeling of food items to maintain freshness.
Section Management
Manage and oversee a designated section of the kitchen (e.g., grill, desserts, prep).
Prepare, cook, and present dishes in line with recipes and standards.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and mise en place within the section.
Monitor portion control, waste, and food quality at all times.
Team Support & Training
Provide guidance and training to junior staff to develop skills.
Work collaboratively with other CDPs and the wider kitchen team.
Communicate effectively with sous chefs and the Head Chef.
Kitchen Support
Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies before service.
Assist chefs with cooking tasks and plating as required.
Follow recipes and portion guidelines to support consistency.
Support with stock rotation, deliveries, and maintaining mise en place.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and health regulations at all times.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, equipment, and utensils.
Dispose of waste safely and efficiently.
Report any maintenance or safety issues to management.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with chefs and kitchen staff to ensure smooth service.
Communicate effectively with colleagues to meet service deadlines.
Support training of new prep staff when required.
Uphold a positive and cooperative kitchen culture.
Service & Operations
Work efficiently during busy service periods.
Support the kitchen team in meeting deadlines and service standards.
Assist with menu development and specials where required.
Deputize for the Sous Chef in their absence.
