University Hospitals of North Midlands is currently unable to provide sponsorship this role. We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individual(s) to become a part of the pharmacy workforce at University Hospital of North Midlands.



This is a training post, to learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).



The post is a 2-year, fixed term contract for a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship.



The role commences in February 2026, subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks to comply with GPhC requirements, NHS Employment Check Standards, and Apprenticeship requirements.



As a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician, you will:



Be expected to maintain professional behaviour within all healthcare settings Be familiar with, and always adhere to the GPHC standards Need to be highly committed to achieve the qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency program Need to demonstrate excellent work/life/study balance skills and be very self-motivated. Be expected to contribute to service delivery on a flexible working basis which includes weekends, late duties and bank holidays.

Main Duties of the Role

Work in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) To undertake dispensing of prescriptions for inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication To dispense ward-stock controlled drugs (CDs) in accordance with legal and departmental procedures To participate in pharmacy reception duties; respond to telephone calls and visitors in a prompt professional Main duties of the role Input prescriptions onto the electronic tracker system To process and assemble orders within the pharmacy stores department, undertake stock management, auditing and date checking To undertake the final accuracy check on prescribed items against valid prescriptions in accordance with legal and departmental SOPs To work with the clinical ward environment, completing Drug Histories, Medicines Reconciliation and assessment of Patients Own Drugs (PODs)

Structure of the course



Four days each week will be based at Royal Stoke/County Hospitals, gaining the necessary vocational experience to enable you to complete the required mandatory competencies within the BTEC Level 3 Diploma. One day a week you will attend Stoke College to complete the knowledge elements of your diploma.

Full educational support is provided, but you will need to be able to quickly learn new IT systems and embrace new technology to provide safe and effective care to patients in a variety of environments.
