Duties
Provide a high standard of care to children aged 2-5 years.
Assist in planning and delivering stimulating, age-appropriate activities.
Observe and assess children's learning and development.
Support children with additional needs and ensure inclusive practice.
Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, adhering to health and safety standards.
Assist with preparing and serving healthy snacks and drinks.
Support children during outdoor play and group activities.
Help maintain accurate records of children's progress, attendance, and daily routines.
Contribute to planning activities around festivals, seasons, and cultural events.
Engage in training opportunities and reflect on practice to improve skills.
Use additional language skills (e.g., Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali) where possible to support communication with children and families.
Work in line with EYFS statutory requirements, ensuring all activities meet national standards for learning, development, and safeguarding.
Person Specification
Working towards or willing to obtain a Level 2 childcare qualification.
Willing to undertake a DBS check and register on the update service.
Passionate about children's well-being and development.
Reliable, trustworthy, punctual, and patient.
Ability to adapt to changing needs of a busy preschool.
Cultural sensitivity and inclusive practice, respecting diverse backgrounds and supporting children with additional needs.
To have basic IT skills for recording registers, observations and assessments on tablets or computers.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with children, parents, and colleagues.
Willingness and desire to learn, with a proactive attitude to training and development.
Positive, enthusiastic attitude that helps create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Able to use own initiative and work effectively within a team.
Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory requirements, ensuring practice meets national standards.
Health and safety awareness in a childcare setting.
Ability to speak an Asian language (such as Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, or Bengali) is highly desirable, reflecting the needs of our diverse community.
This role is subject to safer recruitment checks, including an Enhanced DBS, references, and verification of identity and qualifications. The apprentice must uphold the setting's safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
