Role Overview
The London Lions are seeking a proactive, media-savvy Press Officer to lead our day-to-day media relations, oversee press strategy across domestic and European competitions, and elevate the club's brand across the UK and continental Europe. With the Lions competing in the EuroCup and pursuing entry into the EuroLeague, this role is central to ensuring the club is seen, respected, and followed by basketball fans, journalists, and stakeholders at home and abroad.
Key Objectives
Raise and maintain the profile of the London Lions regionally, nationally, and within the European basketball community.
Build and manage strong relationships with UK and European sports media.
Position the London Lions as a progressive, inclusive, and elite professional basketball organisation.
Maximise media exposure around games, signings, community initiatives, partnerships, and off-court stories.
Provide a seamless, consistent press office function that reflects the club's ambition and professionalism.
Act as the primary point of contact for all media enquiries--reactive and proactive.
Manage day-to-day press office functions, including timely responses to requests, interview facilitation, and crisis/issues management.
Draft and distribute press releases for club announcements, including signings, injuries, partnerships, and executive statements.
Monitor media coverage across print, online, broadcast, and social platforms, including EuroCup-specific channels.
Compile regular press coverage reports and identify opportunities for improved media impact.
Pitch and secure media opportunities across domestic and international platforms.
Identify and develop storylines around players, coaches, and the club's journey through EuroCup competition.
Coordinate media appearances and interviews with players, staff, and executives.
Engage EuroCup and EuroLeague media teams to ensure visibility and alignment with wider competition narratives.
Provide first-response counsel for sensitive media issues.
Draft and manage holding statements and official responses in collaboration with senior leadership.
Monitor media risks and flag emerging issues early.
Operate a consistent press office service during core hours with flexibility for major announcements, games, or emergencies.
Participate in weekly coordination calls with the club's internal communications and leadership team.
Attend key domestic and EuroCup games (home and select away fixtures) as needed to facilitate media relations and press coordination.
Work cross-functionally with the marketing, content, commercial, and basketball operations teams to ensure message alignment.
Candidate Profile
ESSENTIAL
Proven experience in media relations, journalism, or communications--preferably in sport or entertainment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Confidence working under pressure, with sound judgment and discretion.
Existing contacts in UK sports media; familiarity with European basketball media is a plus.
Comfortable managing multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
Passion for basketball and a deep understanding of the sport's culture and ecosystem.
DESIRABLE
Previous experience with European or international sports competitions.
Knowledge of the EuroCup and/or EuroLeague structure and media landscape.
Familiarity with media monitoring and press distribution tools.
