Primary School Sports Coach

Location: Various Primary Schools across Edinburgh (specific schools to be confirmed upon appointment) Salary: Range, 12.50-20.00 PH. Contract Type: [Various/Fixed-term/Permanent] Start Date: August 2025

About the Role

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Sports Coaches to join our dynamic primary school teams across Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and engage young people in physical activity, fostering a love for sport and healthy lifestyles from an early age. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and delivering high-quality sports programmes, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and age-appropriate sports sessions for primary school pupils during before school clubs, curriculum time, after-school clubs, and potentially during lunch breaks. Develop a varied sports programme that introduces children to a range of activities, including but not limited to football, rugby, basketball, netball, athletics, gymnastics, and dance. Promote active participation, teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship among all pupils. Assess and monitor pupil progress, adapting coaching methods to meet the diverse needs and abilities of all children. Organise and lead intra-school and inter-school sports events and competitions. Ensure a safe environment for all activities, adhering to relevant health and safety guidelines and risk assessments. Work collaboratively with teachers, school staff, parents, and community sports organisations to enhance the school's sports offering. Maintain accurate records of attendance and achievements. Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism and a passion for sport. Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
Essential Qualifications & Experience

Hold a relevant coaching qualification (e.g., UKCC Level 2 or equivalent in a recognised sport). Demonstrable experience coaching sports to primary school-aged children (ages 4-12). Knowledge and understanding of child development and safeguarding best practices. A valid First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one). Current PVG Scheme membership (Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme) or willingness to apply for one.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Degree or diploma in Sports Science, Physical Education, or a related field. Experience in coaching multiple sports. Experience working within a school environment. Driving license and access to a vehicle.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children, staff, and parents. Enthusiastic, energetic, and highly motivated. Patient, adaptable, and able to manage groups of children effectively. Strong organisational and planning skills. A commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities in sport. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
