Are you a motivated finance professional with a passion for quality service? We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Principal Accountant here in Barnsley, the place of possibilities.



Working within the Finance Business Unit, the successful applicant will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Council's Section 151 Officer's responsibilities are fulfilled and that front line services receive an efficient, effective and market leading financial support service.

About the role





Working within the Corporate Finance and Business Partnering service, the Principal Accountant will play a key role in ensuring that the service and business unit achieves the key priorities set out in its corporate plan and delivers the core strategies adopted by the council.



Reporting to the Strategic Finance Business Partner, under the direction of the Head of Service, the Principal Accountant is responsible for leading, managing and providing:


an effective professional financial support service

providing strategic financial advice, specialist financial support, all aspects off financial management and budgetary control and ensuring all financial records are accurately maintained in accordance with appropriate governance and regulations

About you





A strong team player, you will hold a professional qualification in accountancy (Level 3, or higher dependent on job role level), have a proven track record in financial management and accounting, and the necessary technical and personal skills to build and maintain effective relationships. You will have a sound understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to organise and prioritise often conflicting workloads to achieve deadlines and other key outputs accurately and on time. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills and be able adopt your approach to different situations with proven business acumen skills in a customer services operation.





To note, the successful candidate will be appointed to the appropriate level based on their demonstrated skills, attributes and qualifications.
