AXA XL has a new and exciting opportunity for a Principal Architect, who will be responsible for to provide expertise and guidance to help shape the AXA XL Cloud platform and work across the wider AXA GO organisation to deliver advanced architecture capabilities and to collaborate with colleagues across the organisation.


The Principal Architecture acts as the global IT Cloud and Infra specialist for AXA XL to provide a complete vision of the organisations transition to the cloud , whilst using your expertise to develop and establish best practices.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

Works with AXA XL CTO Enterprise Architects to analyse business strategy and trends, as well as change requirements in other EA viewpoints to derive the future state technology architecture across Public Cloud and Infrastructure in general. Development of organisational policies, standards, guidelines, and methods for cloud-based service design Development of cloud-based service solutions requiring introduction of modern technologies or new uses for existing technologies Provide consultation for line of business applications team on how to migrate their applications to cloud using well-architected designs and patterns to utilise the capabilities of Azure. Executes software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think up alternative approaches to build solutions or decompose technical problems. Help increase the velocity of cloud migration and digital transformation by helping engineering teams adopt DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and automated release processes. Participate, contribute and where necessary lead technical governance authorities. Evaluates recommendations and provides feedback on new technologies. Serves as the Technology Office's go-to subject matter expert. Work with product managers to produce an agreed set of deliverables, shape products and provide guidance with project plans and objectives. Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems. Coach, train, and mentor to improve the maturity and value of the Cloud practices. Research infrastructure technologies and identify solutions that benefit AXA XL

The Principal Architect will report to Head of Cloud, Infrastructure and Security Architecture as part of AXA XL's Technology Office

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:


Technical Expertise / Certifications:





Effective hands-on experience, including technical depth in one or more technology areas, such as: Cloud Enablement Design & Migration, Infrastructure Design, Identity, Distributed Technologies, and/or Messaging Technology. Knowledge of network architecture concepts, including topology, protocols, components, principles, fault domains and failure modes Ongoing understanding of latest cyber threats, attacking techniques and mitigating strategies (i.e.. blast radius analysis, workload placement) Knowledge of software-related information technology (IT) security principles and methods (e.g., modularisation, layering, abstraction, data hiding, implicitly / minimisation, etc.) Understanding of DevOps, pipelines, automation, and common tooling used to deliver secure software and infrastructure to the cloud. Prior experience in disaster and/or cyber recovery planning and testing would be advantageous Current Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Administrator Associate and Azure Network Engineer Associate certifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems, business management, or a related field preferred. Experience with Atlassian suite (Confluence and Jira)
