Are you ready to lead complex projects that shape safer, sustainable buildings and make a real impact on your community?

If you're someone who thrives on solving complex challenges, enjoys working in a dynamic environment, and takes pride in ensuring safety and compliance, this role is for you. You'll need a sharp eye for detail, strong leadership skills, and the ability to influence and guide others. If you're passionate about shaping safe, sustainable, and well-designed buildings while mentoring a team and driving service excellence, you'll feel right at home here.

What's the role all about?

As a Principal Building Control Surveyor, you'll lead a team of surveyors and take ownership of major and complex projects. Your mission is to make sure buildings meet the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and accessibility in line with Building Regulations and the Building Act. From advising on corporate projects to enforcing compliance and managing high-risk situations, you'll play a pivotal role in protecting public health and safety while supporting the council's vision for continuous improvement.

What will your day look like?

No two days are the same. One moment you might be reviewing plans for a large-scale development, negotiating compliance solutions with architects and contractors; the next, you could be on-site inspecting works or responding to urgent calls about dangerous structures. You'll balance technical expertise with leadership--mentoring your team, providing professional advice, and making critical decisions under pressure. Expect a mix of office-based tasks, site visits, and collaborative work with stakeholders across the construction industry.

Who are we looking for?

We're seeking an experienced professional with deep knowledge of Building Regulations and the construction industry. You'll be a confident leader with proven ability to manage complex projects and influence positive outcomes. Strong communication skills are essential--you'll need to explain technical details clearly to a wide range of stakeholders. A relevant degree, professional membership (RICS or CABE), and registration with the Building Safety Regulator are key requirements. If you're proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous development, we want to hear from you.

Why join us?

Joining our team means stepping into a role where your expertise truly makes a difference. You'll be part of a forward-thinking council that values professionalism, integrity, and continuous improvement. We offer the opportunity to lead complex projects, influence positive outcomes, and work alongside dedicated colleagues who share your commitment to safety and quality. With access to ongoing development, diverse challenges, and the chance to shape the built environment in North East Lincolnshire, this is more than a job--it's a career where your skills and ideas will help create safer, better places for our community.
