Job Description

The post-holder will work as a member of the ADHD/ASD Team to ensure the systematic provision of a high quality and specialist psychology service to those living in the community, alongside other specialist child and adolescent mental health services and adult services.

In addition, the post holder will provide expert advice related to psychological practice within the team through consultation, supervision, formulation and training, to enable the provision of effective and appropriate care. This includes reasonable adjustments and adapted psychological interventions, to clients who may have a range of complex difficulties relating to their neurodevelopmental needs.

About the service


We are creating dedicated Children and Young People ADHD and Autism assessment hubs that put families at the centre of care. These hubs bring together strong, multidisciplinary teams who share a single commitment: to deliver assessments with clarity, compassion, and consistency. With clear standards guiding every step, our clinics run Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00, offering structured, reliable support without the pressure of on-call work. This is about building a service that children, young people, and their families can truly rely on -- and a workplace where professionals can focus on making a lasting difference every day.

What you will do



Provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention and to work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of service policies and procedures. Be responsible for offering advice, supervision, consultation and supporting clinical leadership, from a psychological perspective to embed psychological understandings within the ADHD and ASD team. Network and work collaboratively with local partner agencies to enhance the treatment pathways for children and adolescents with ADHD/ASD. Support transition processes for young people approaching adulthood by working collaboratively with adult neurodevelopmental services within DHCFT and neighbouring Trusts/Agencies Have an awareness and understanding of national policy and apply this within the Service. This would include advanced knowledge in respect of specialist assessments, crisis management, therapeutic interventions, and research evidence. Work autonomously within professional guidelines whilst ensuring that the service also works within professional guidelines and adheres to Trust policies and procedures. Use the highest quality of psychological evidence and clinical accountability to inform and enable best practice.

Essential criteria



Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist in an expertise and interest in a specialist area relevant to the client group application relevant clinical speciality, including at a highly specialist level. Experience in working with children and families in a community setting Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across a broad range of settings including experience of working with children and young people with ADHD and/or ASD with a range of complex difficulties and histories of trauma.

Desirable criteria



Experience of specialist assessments for ADHD and/or ASD for psychological needs and/or diagnostic purposes Skill and experience relating to the assessment and management of risk and children and young people with ADHD and/or ASD
