Position: Principal Ecologist (1-Year Contract)

Location: Gloucestershire, South West of England

Hourly rate: \xc2\xa323.54 (37 hours per week)

I am seeking a skilled and motivated Principal Ecologist to join a government organisation in Gloucestershire on a 1-year contract. As a Principal Ecologist, you will be responsible for providing expert ecological advice and leadership in relation to environmental duties, policies, and services for the organisation. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on environmental preservation and play a crucial role in shaping ecological strategies and initiatives.

Responsibilities: * Provide ecological advice: Offer comprehensive and up-to-date ecological advice, guidance, and support to internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and best practices.

  • Lead ecological surveys and assessments: Plan, lead, and coordinate ecological surveys, assessments, and impact studies, utilizing advanced techniques and methodologies to gather accurate data and evaluate environmental implications.
  • Develop and implement ecological strategies: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective ecological strategies, policies, and plans that align with organizational goals and contribute to environmental sustainability.
  • Integrate ecological considerations: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure ecological considerations are integrated into projects, policies, and initiatives, fostering a holistic approach to environmental conservation.
  • Stay updated on legislation and policies: Keep abreast of relevant environmental legislation, policies, guidelines, and emerging trends, and proactively ensure compliance and adherence within the organization.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities, fostering collaboration and promoting shared environmental objectives.
  • Project management: Effectively manage ecological projects, including budgeting, resource allocation, and monitoring project timelines to ensure successful delivery and achievement of project objectives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in leading ecological projects or initiatives, preferably within a government or public sector organisation.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation, policies, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ecological concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, fostering strong working relationships.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in ecological survey techniques, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with ecological software and tools for analysis and modeling is a plus.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management) is desirable.
