AtkinsRealis Building Design Practice are looking to appoint a Fire Engineer who is looking to further develop their career within a forward-thinking multi sector practice. This opportunity will involve working as part of a national practice of Design professionals delivering fire engineering design solutions to clients across a wide variety of sectors, including Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential and Transportation.


There is flexibility around where the role is based because although the majority of our current Fire Engineering team are based in Derby and London offices there is an ambition to grow Fire Engineering teams in the North and Southwest. Preferred UK locations: Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, London or Derby.


As a Principal Fire Engineer, you will take responsibility for your own projects but also work collaboratively with other senior team members to develop the team and strengthen technical capability.

Your purpose:



Work in a range of sectors from residential buildings through to rail transportation or new energy facilities. Manage multiple engineering projects from inception through to delivery in support of fire safety standards and codes. Support the delivery of project work within time and cost budgets. Keep up to date with regulations and legislation. Developing fire engineering solutions on projects and ensuring the fire engineering strategy is delivered. Assess fire related risks in projects and working collaboratively to mitigate where possible. Develop and support junior engineers. Review and comment on the quality of fire safety related installations. Undertake tenders for new work and develop client relationships with existing clients. Lead medium sized projects on a day-to-day basis. Prepare and review reports, lead fire engineering workshops.

What you can bring:



Engineering degree, preferably fire engineering or alternatively a post graduate qualification in fire engineering (Applicants with different backgrounds also considered). Demonstrate a strong record of successfully delivering fire safety projects - experience in other sectors strongly considered. 6+ years of relevant experience. Experience working with a range of fire standards including BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545 would be beneficial. Fire modelling experience will be beneficial with experience outside of the building sector would be advantageous Ability to obtain security clearance, ideally without caveats would be highly beneficial Associate membership of the IFE working towards full membership A flexible approach to the working environment and working towards Chartership Willingness to travel will be a positive advantage Good commercial awareness and customer focused Ability to collate information and have a clear and structured approach to report writing
